Using a portal customers can book, track and trace their shipment from the point of collection to the delivery point. Goods are collected by Active Carriers and are loaded onto specified vehicles, those for nationwide or European destinations are taken to the Palletways central hub at Fradley, Lichfield.
Active Carriers operate a fleet of 27 trucks and 4 vans, three of which are Vauxhall Movanos. Paul Adams, Managing Director, explains how the operation functions: “We are a 24 hour business and we can transport any items that will fit on a pallet, from gravel to bathrooms, washing machines and vehicle parts. Our larger trailers are double-deckers and we have various sizes of vehicle to suit the size of load, collection and distributions needs.
“We are aware that an increasing proportion of our trade is through the internet and we are growing the domestic delivery side of the business, hence the need for the Vauxhall Movano vans from Greenhous Vauxhall. The latest delivery is curtain sided and on a long wheel base with a tail lift. Our drivers have electric pump pallet trucks to carry the pallet from the tail lift to the house.
“This allows our drivers to get right to the kerb side of a house where our 7.5 tonne trucks may not be able to access due to narrow access, over-hanging trees, cul-de-sacs for example.”
On behalf of Greenhous Vauxhall, Callum Griffin, Commercial Vehicles Sales Executive, says that the conversion to the Movano was carried out to the specifications desired by Active Carriers: “We aim to build a solution to the needs of the customer, so that customer will receive a bespoke Vauxhall Movano which will add to the operational capabilities of the business. Greenhous are delighted to supply Paul and Mark with their vans as well as DAF trucks.”
