The Rural Charity is a new offshoot of the Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society and it has shops on Whitchurch Road in Shrewsbury, High Street in Wem and Albion Hill in Oswestry. To keep them stocked with goods and to facilitate the free collection of unwanted furniture and other items from their communities, the Rural Charity has just purchased a Vauxhall Movano box van, fitted with a tail lift from Greenhous Vauxhall. This will enable collections to be made across Shropshire on a daily basis.
The shops recycle furniture, clothing and collectables and give valuable employment whilst also acting as a local hub for the Society’s activities, and to raise the necessary funds to enable their objectives to be realised.
Income generated from the proceeds of sales help to make the Shropshire & West Midlands Agricultural Society self-sustaining and the surplus funds form bursaries and grants to support schemes such as the National Young Farmer’s organisation, the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) and the Shropshire Rural Communities Charity.
The Movano box van will prove to be an ideal vehicle for the team who make the collections. It operates out of the Greenhous West Midlands Showground where most Sundays there is Car Boot sale and many hundreds of donations are made there. These collection visits can be arranged by calling 01743 289831.
