The Greenhous Group has proved it is miles ahead of the competition when it comes to innovation by using the chassis cab of a new 4.5 tonne Movano to create the UK’s first bespoke 4.5t car transporter. Telford-based Greenhous Vauxhall capitalised on the launch of the 4.5 tonne Movano van to create the transporter, which is now being used to move cars between Greenhous sites.

The brainchild of Group Sales Director Richard Potts, the business built on a successful track record of converting vehicles for customers to develop a project on a slightly larger scale. The business has provided a bespoke service to customers for some years, taking the chassis cab versions of the manufacturer’s range of vans, and building specialist bodies for them to meet their needs. Until last year, the Vauxhall range went up the 3.5 tonne model, allowing plenty of flexibility for creating horse boxes and other spacious, customised vehicles. With the launch of the 4.5 tonne capacity Movano, the business has been able to achieve a UK first – creating a bespoke car transporter that will carry vehicles upto 2100kg, covering most of the passenger cars that Greenhous sell.

Richard said: “Essentially, we do what every good business does – we give the customer what they want. We take it one step further though; if it’s something that Vauxhall doesn’t provide, we endeavour to make it happen.

“We’ve become very familiar with creating bespoke vehicles to meet the consumer’s needs, but naturally we have to work within the parameters of health and safety and ensure that the vehicle’s capacity is suitable for the purpose.

“The arrival of the new Movano with its increased load capacity, rear wheel drive and twin rear wheels has opened up new possibilities for us, and as such we created the bespoke transporter. The higher weight capacity means that we can now accommodate any vehicle from the Vauxhall range between Greenhous sites

“Obviously, there is huge sales potential for us based on this customisation. Vauxhall doesn’t offer this service itself, it is exclusive to Greenhous in the UK and it is the only one of its kind in operation. We’re finding it very useful, though we’ve had several offers.

“Whether or not we choose to sell our prototype, there is no doubt that this is a valuable sales tool when it comes to demonstrating to companies across the UK that Greenhous has the ability to create a customised vehicle especially to meet their business’s needs.,” he added.

The new vehicle has air conditioning, front fog lamps, metallic paint, and is linked to a powerful Euro 4 2.3 Cdti 150ps engine. The transporter body is aluminium with a platform length of 3200mm, with the beaver tail an additional 1740mm, making a total body length of nearly 5 metres. The deck is chequer plate and has side guards with 2200mm heavy duty ramps that are stored in the side of the body. There is also a powerful 12v winch with a line pull of 3636kg. This vehicle was registered in June 2011 and has only covered 500 miles. It is offered for sale as a complete package at £26,999 + VAT. Greenhous can also offer 3.5t car transporters from £12,999 + VAT.
